Psychometry is the intuitive art of reading energetic imprints left on objects by their previous owners. Although fantastical, it’s true that inanimate objects, we’ve used during our lifetime, record our personal stories. Specifically, these objects can reveal such personal details as our personality, memories, health, relationships, career, and even favorite pastimes.
This treasure trove of information held by objects is possible because humans are energetic beings who each possess a unique energetic imprint. And within this imprint lie all our personal details that were true at the time when we used an object. We then infuse our energetic imprint on objects by using them frequently over a period of time.
Moreover, these imprints remain within our objects long after we’ve passed on to the Spirit Realm. For this reason, many professional Psychics use Psychometry to obtain information regarding their Sitter’s (Clients’s) deceased loved ones.
Psychometry vs Mediumship
Mediumship is when a Medium communicates with a deceased person (Spirit) and then relays the Spirit’s exact message to their living loved one. In other words, the Medium is the middle party between a living person and a deceased person in a three-way conversation.
Although, a professional Medium may use a Spirit’s formerly used object to contact them, they will subsequently communicate with the Spirit directly. However, if the Medium continues to gain the Spirit’s life information solely from the object, it’s not Mediumship. For this is Psychometry.
Nonetheless, in practice, intuitive professionals may mix methods during their readings with Psychometry being just one of many available tools.

Note: I’ve left out personal electronics i.e., cell phones, tablets, computers because they emit their own electrical energy and will only serve to confuse the Psychometrist.
Energetic Imprints on Buildings and Outdoor Areas
Objects are not alone in recording histories. For homes, buildings, and outdoor spaces do as well. And sometimes, powerfully negative events are imprinted on a building or outdoor area. Specifically, where a past tragic event has taken place, a building or outdoor area can exude a sad, angry, or downright bone chilling energetic vibe.
Energy imprinted buildings are homes, hospitals, prisons, business establishments, etc., where great emotional or physical pain and/or a traumatic death was experienced.
Indisputably, sites of past mass casualties by war, disease, fire, drownings, and murder hold the strongest of negative energetic imprints.
Energetic Imprints vs Ghosts
Ghosts are Spirits who linger in the Earth Plane after passing on and shedding their physical bodies. For their own reasons, they’ve resisted going to the Spirit Realm remaining attached to places connected to their previous lives. In contrast, energetic imprints are recorded histories attached to actual objects, buildings, or outdoor areas, not to Spirits. However, a location can hold an energetic imprint of a tragic past event as well as have Ghosts present.
How is Psychometry of Objects Performed?
Generally, Psychometry is performed by the Psychometrist holding the object in their non-dominate hand while connecting to their intuition. Specifically, they use one or more of their Clairs to pick up knowings, images, sounds, scents, tastes, emotions, and physical feelings.
- Claircognizance – clear knowing
- Clairvoyance – clear seeing
- Clairaudience – clear hearing
- Clairgustance – clear tasting
- Clairalience – clear smelling
- Clairsentience – clear emotional or physical feeling
How is Psychometry of Buildings and Outdoor Areas Performed
Psychometry of buildings and outdoor areas also access the Psychometrist’s Clairs. However, for a space, the Psychometrist stands in and moves around the space to determine the location of the strongest imprints. Then they access their Clairs, as above, to pick up impressions left from the tragic events that have occurred in the space.
Final Words for Psychometry – the Art of Reading Energetic Imprints
Personally, my strongest Clair has always been Clairsentience (feeling) which overwhelmed me in my youth whenever I felt impressions emitted from objects. Consequently, I suffered discomfort when visiting antique shoppes and flea markets with their plethora of energetic imprints.
Of course the large furniture pieces were the greatest energy broadcasting offenders. But even after purchasing a couple of very small antique items, I was so uncomfortable, I soon got rid of them. For they creeped me out. It was not that they emitted negative energy, but rather their energy was just different than my own. Unfortunately, at the time I didn’t understand that.
However, I came to understand that objects hold energetic imprints. Thus, previously owned items no longer creep me out. In fact, I now very much enjoy practicing and teaching Psychometry in my Psychic Development classes.
